A large wedge-shaped New Zealand Greestone Toki that is 2cm wide at the top and nearly 3cm wide at the end, and about 10.5cm long, that is bound with waxed cord. It comes packed in a small kete (see photo).
Genuine New Zealand Pounamu (Greenstone), sourced and hand carved in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Pounamu is of great cultural significance for Maori and is believed to enhance mana (prestige) of its possessor. When received as a gift Pounamu is said to gain value as a special treasure.
The "Toki" is a symbol of courage and strength in time of adversity. The toki (adze)was a chizel tool used by the Maori people of Aotearoa to carve everything from their great wakas (canoes) to the intricate designs found in their marae (meeting house).
