MP02G

70mm diameter Gold Mother of Pearl pendant with the Mangopare pattern, individually hand crafted in Aoteatoa NZ with an adjustable plaited wax cord that comes in a beautiful hand made NZ native wood case.

The Pitau pattern denotes a perforated spiral carving such as found on the figurehead of a canoe or waka.  Such waka often served as a poetic symbol for a great chief.  Pitau also means the 'young succulent shoot of a plant, especially the circinate frond of a fern' (Carved Histories: Rotorua Ngati Tarawhai Woodcarving by Roger Neich).

This is original artwork by Wiremu Barriball (see biography in "Artists & Artisans" above).

Each pendant comes with a wooden case that is individually crafted from recycled NZ native Matai hardwood, by master woodturner John Wysocki.

As each pendant is individually made by hand using natural materials, no two are the same therefore, variations in colour and characteristics should be expected and may differ from what is featured in the photo.
